Lengthening will be started post seven days after the surgery date. Every day, 1mm lengthening will be done, so in 87-97 days, the patient will complete 8cm of extension. Please be advised that every human body is different; hence, each individual’s time range may vary slightly.
We strictly advise our patients not to walk during the lengthening phase to avoid pin-cutting on the skin, which is extremely painful and results in wounds that may lead to infection. Furthermore, to prevents the bending of pins & wires, which may lead to a lengthening decrease. Once the lengthening phase is over, the patient can walk using walking aids initially and gradually can walk without any walking aids.

From the survey of our patient’s experience, most of our patients stated that they felt the pain during night time and there was no pain during the day. The lengthening itself is not very painful as we lengthen 4-6 rounds a day, summing up to 1mm in total per day, which prevents over-stretching and causes less soft tissue injury. You may feel discomfort and pain once you cross 6cm of lengthening. Usually, 6-8cm is a bit painful and discomfort phase where you may develop tightness in muscles, tendons, and joint stiffness.
